We have had a great time this week, and thank you to everyone whom attended. This Macquarie sign is from the top of their new “activity-based” building at Shelley St. For those who missed out, it’s not like any other office buildings you’ve ever seen before. Keep an eye out for when SUITS runs another one of these extraordinary visits again perhaps next year!

I want to take this opportunity to thank Will from Google, Robyn from Atlassian and Larissa from our sponsor Optiver whom have worked with me throughout the time leading up. A special thanks goes to Anna from Macquarie because she has made our visit possible even at such short notice! They have put in so much effect to make this all possible, and it’s easy for this effort to go unnoticed.

I promised to make the photos available, and here it is after the break. I’ve only included low-res photos here, but feel free to click through to get to the full quality photos. The links and resources are also after the break.

Feedback. I’d love to know what you thought about this event. Send me an email with any thoughts or comments, in particular:

What did you get out of the day?

Which parts did you like best (and/or didn’t like), and why?

How can we make this event even better for next time?

Five days ago we received the following:

Hear hear, ye Disciples of the Computer Age,

The followers of the sect of Set hereby challenge your finest champions to do battle! It will be a battle of wits, stamina and musical prowess. It is a battle to find the greatest GUITAR HERO of our time.

The House of Manning has kindly lent us their great tavern for our use on Tuesdays, from the hours of 1pm to 3pm.

We look forward to hearing from you and hope you can find the greatest of champions that will be able to take on our valiant heroes. Please let us know the date of a suitable Tuesday.

May the Gods bless your brave souls,
Bishara Marzook
Sutekh Secretary.

To which we responded:

We, the defenders of all that is good and virtual, accept your challenge!

We shall present our champion in the eleventh week of this semester.

May we also propose a wager? The loser of the duel shall purchase a quantity of Manning’s finest suitable to quench the thirst of the winner and his second (should they both survive the contest).

May the greatest Hero triumph!

Jonathan Kummerfeld
SUITS President 2008

And they agreed to our terms:

Verily, we accept your wager! We shall meet on the eleventh Tuesday of the semester then, and all shall witness the greatest duel of our time. May I suggest asking the fellow members of your order to come along and give strength to their representatives?

Till then, may the powers that be keep your champions’ fingers in the finest of health.

-Bishara Marzook.

Now we shall begin our hunt for the greatest Guitar Hero in SUITS – at our next Console Gaming Night, Wednesday night of week 10 (in the board room as usual).

Everyone knows what happens in an AGM. The usual formalities: motioning changes, electing new execs. But really, it has been really fun. Not surprisingly, this AGM in 2008 was the longest AGM we’ve ever had. That is, the longest AGM out of the two that we’ve had so far. Well 3 if you include the inaugrual general meeting. It started from 5pm today and it wasn’t until 8pm that the formalities ended.

So here’s our new executive team for 2008-2009:

President: Ben Taylor

Vice President: Dominick Ng

Treasurer: Joshua Pearse

Secretary: Gareth Robinson

Events Co-Ordinator: Joshua Akehurst

Public Relations: Cathrine Stewart

Industry Liaison: Edmund Tse

IT Officer: Tim Dawborn

Undergraduate Representative: Tarek Elgindy

Postgraduate Representative: Liviu Constantinescu

The night of AGM did include dinner though. We ordered delicious dinner from Newtwon Thai 2, with a menu delicately selected by Jonathan to feature ample vegetarian varieties. Not to mention the added cake for dessert, since it was Chris’ birthday today. Happy birthday, Chris!

SUITS now has a new and exciting team of executives. I’m excited!
