If you’re a little slow on the uptake you may also want to know that we run weekly BBQ’s at 12:30pm-1:30pm every Wednesday outside the School of IT (thats the big shiny metal and glass building you are probably in right now). We also do lots of other fun events, which you can find out about by joining us.

Iâ€™d like to welcome all our new members to SUITS for 2009. Thank you to everyone who came and visited us at O-Week and hope youâ€™ve had some pre-semester fun on the N64 there.

If you havenâ€™t got your SUITS T-shirt yet, thereâ€™s still a chance. We do have some stock left, and itâ€™d be wise to get in quick before they all run out. Drop by next Wednesday at the BBQ next week or the Console Night to grab a feed and get your trendy new SUITS T-Shirt.

Welcome and ‘SUITS Night’

Hello all,
I’m Ben the SUITS Event Coordinator and this semester I’m going to be running this Event Blog. Basically the purpose of this blog is to discuss whats been happening, what is going to happen and hopefully get some feedback from those of you reading this. I think that this blog can become a great accompaniment to the Newsletter (just a little more wordy and a little more personal) and a decent read for all SUITS members.

Next week will mark the start of our first week of events for 2008 Semester 2 and with it we will see the first ever SUITS Night. This semester we have a few new plans. The exec has decided that while previous semesters have been good, SUITS has not been focused enough on having fun. So the SUITS Night is our way of fixing this problem. Every Wednesday night we will have food, drink and some sort of fun event planned. Our first SUITS Night (Wednesday 6th August) will be a console gaming and general fun event. We really hope everyone can drop by, eat some free food and hang out for a few hours. More information about this will be in the next Newsletter. As for the rest of the semester, we have some great ideas involving cameras, trivia and the return of our famous LANs, just with more games.

BBQs will also be returning this semester, continuing our support of cheap and delicious food. We expect these to be very similar to last semester, except with better salad and more delicious dessert. Expect to see details for the first one (currently planned for Wednesday Week 2) in the Newsletter. Our Algorithms and Problem Solving events will be changing appearance this semester. Instead of weekly training in the evenings we have three weekend competitions planned, and a more focused event during the day once a week (timing to be decided very soon, based on your preferences). Watch out for more info in the next newsletter.

Finally I’d like to thank everyone for making last semester so great, this semester is looking good and with enough support from all our members I think we can make it the best semester for SUITS so far!
